My name is Helmi Sloper (Vaga is my maiden name) and I'm the owner of Helmi Vaga Interior Design. Having attended Art College where I studied Fashion and Design, I then began my journey into interior design and gained my Diploma In Interior Design with the National Design Academy. Nestled in a little valley of green rolling Welsh hills is my creative space. My Design Studio, designed and built by ourselves, also doubles up as my workshop where some of my clients beautiful, bespoke soft furnishings and handmade lampshades are created. My studio is hidden away from the hustle and bustle and distractions of daily life and its stunning rural surroundings are a constant source of inspiration to me.
This is a photo taken from the garden surrounding my workshop. In the summer we often have hot air balloons flying over which drives our 4 dogs mad!
My favourite place to sit on warm sunny days when I need some inspiration is in the garden of our cottage, surrounded by rambling blooms with the sound of birds and bees. I can often be found here sat under the shade of the tree sketching and painting.
Loving all things creative, I am also a lover of sewing and craft which comes in handy for my other business Sew At Home. Sew At Home is an online shop where I sell beautiful fabrics and yarns, all sorts of haberdashery plus gorgeous Danish homewares from Greengate.
Here is where the magic happens, the beginnings of your glamorous dining room, luxuriously relaxing bathroom or perhaps some bespoke soft furnishings such as lampshades and cushions. My studio/workshop is what I call my 'special place' and once I step inside it's hard to get me to leave! Here I am immersed completely into creative mode and surrounded by everything I love.
My studio reminds me of a treehouse - on stilts hiding amongst a glade of firs and eucalyptus. Squirrels run and play in the trees and on the roof while I am inside working. In spring time there are rabbits a plenty!
